2026.08.0500:30:00UTC+00Japan’s S&P Global Services PMI Eases to 51.2 in July, Signalling Slower Expansion

Japan’s services sector lost some momentum in July, as the S&P Global Services Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) slipped to 51.2 from 52.2 previously, according to data updated on 5 August 2026.

The latest reading, while still above the 50-point threshold that separates expansion from contraction, indicates a moderation in the pace of growth compared with earlier in July 2026. The move from 52.2 to 51.2 suggests that activity in Japan’s services industry is still expanding, but at a slower rate than at the start of the period.

Investors and analysts tracking Japan’s post-pandemic recovery will likely view the July easing as a sign of resilience tempered by emerging headwinds, with the services sector remaining in growth territory but showing signs of cooling.
